On March 9, International DJ Day is celebrated, which was instituted as a tribute to those who compose music through their mixes.

International DJ Day was instituted in 2002 by the “World DJ Found” foundation and by the “Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy” NGO, as a tribute to those artists who dedicate their time and talent to musical mixing. The term "DJ" is the diminutive for the word "Disc-Jockey", and refers to those people who select, reproduce and create music before an audience. The first DJ in history is considered to be Ray Newby in 1909. At 16, Newby was playing records with the permission of radio pioneer Charles 'Doc' Herrold.

With the expansion of nightclubs in the 60s and 70s, the explosion of the genre began, when specialized teams began to be created for its exponents. In the 90s, the ‘Rave’ movement changed the image of DJs and artists such as ‘Diva DJ’ began to be projected.

At present, and hand in hand with new technological advances, artists such as Armin Van Buuren, David Guetta, Tiesto, Deadmau5, Sander Van Doorn or Laidback Luke dominate the electronic scene "DJing", and have become the greatest exponents of the gender. On International DJ Day, some artists take the opportunity to donate the money raised from their concerts to charitable causes.
